The word citizen
Description

With the Declaration of Liberty, and the subsequent War of Independence, those freeholders in the colonies were called upon to become Citizens for the first time, to unite in one Great Cause and thus unite from the wealthiest towns to the humblest communities. All were called to sacrifice: husbands, sons, and brothers of the community who would often be sent far from home, to help provide funds and provisions needed to sustain the Congress and the Army through those difficult years, and through the work of individuals and artisans crafting, weaving, sewing, laundering, and often housing stricken soldiers. This talk will reveal how communities throughout New England, and particularly in Southern New England responded during the Revolutionary War to the demands of Congress and the depths to which these villages and towns gave of their own lives and livelihoods in the cause of liberty.
